After School Tutoring

Through new programs funded by The Children's Trust and United Way of Miami-Dade, over 300 elementary and high school students benefit from our before and after school programs such as Youth Experiencing Success (YES) which provide tutoring and cultural enrichment activities each day.

This program provides a safe space for latch-key students to receive the assistance they need to attain Florida's Sunshine State Standards, improve their grades, score well on the FCAT, and earn their high school diploma. These youth participate in tutoring and recreational activities and youth development workshops utilizing low teacher/student ratios and nationally recognized best practices.

Students targeted come from culturally diverse backgrounds and may have various factors associated with high risk of dropping out, unemployment, and crime. The need for this program is profound due to the at-risk factors of these students and the fact that parents are unable to pay for private tutors.

Each year, over 85% of all students who participate increase their academic skills, social skills, physical fitness skills, and commitment to eating healthier foods.
