Refugee Programs And Services

Refugees are individuals and families who have fled their countries of origin and have met the United Nations’ criteria of having a “well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group or political opinion.” YCI’s refugee services in South Florida offer an array of programs to assist refugees, asylees and public interest parolees in achieving self-sufficiency to ease the transition in their new country.

YCI has offered refugee employment services since 1982 and is the largest refugee employment provider in Florida. In 1997, YCI joined the network of U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants to provide Reception and Placement and Matching Grant Program services mainly to the refugees fleeing the revolution in Cuba. But we have also assisted individuals from Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Vietnam, Iran, Iraq, former Soviet Union, former Yugoslavia, Colombia, Haiti, El Salvador, Venezuela and smaller numbers of individuals from other countries.

All services are free and available in the languages spoken by those we serve.

YCI provides the following refugee programs & services in
Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties

Refugee Resettlement Youth Co-Op provides support services such as housing, school registration, referrals, and job placement for refugees during the first thirty days from arrival into the U.S.		Matching Grant This program assists eligible refugees, asylees and parolees achieve early employment and become self-sufficient through services that are available for 180 days from the date of arrival.
Refugee Employment & Training (RET) This program offers to newly arrived refugees, asylees and parolees who have resided in the U.S. for less than 60 months assistance with employment services, training, credentialing of prior education and more. Refugee Youth & Family Program The Refugees/Entrants Youth Program offers services to eligible vulnerable youth refugees/entrants, ages 16 – 19, with the goal of achieving employment and integration into the local community.		Comprehensive Refugee Services This program offers services to assist eligible newly arrived individuals and families with job preparation and placement to help them achieve economic self-sufficiency and successful integration.
Unaccompanied Minors Program Youth Co-Op provides services to unaccompanied alien children following release from custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement.		Residential Services for Unaccompanied Alien Children Youth Co-Op provides educational and vocational services to unaccompanied girls between the ages of 13 to 17 to help them become better prepared for their new life.
